Our Resource classrooms at Literacy have revolving doors! I work all day long with individuals and groups of 2-4 students to provide specialized academic support in decoding, reading fluency, comprehension, paragraph writing, number sense, and math concepts.
My classroom culture is based on Visible Learning and John Hattie's Mindframes to work through difficulties using "the power of YET" and "grit" as some concepts and skills do not come easily.
I only use evidence-based curriculum and methods in my practice, and I support with technology where it is appropriate.
Over a dozen students between grades K-3 receive Resource services. It is a safe place where they can work at their instructional levels to strengthen reading, writing and math skills. Without this help, the gap between "instructional" and "independent" widens with every passing year.
My Project
In Resource small groups, we utilize specific apps to supplement our research-based curriculum.
Each day we use approximately 5 minutes per pullout session to do an independent activity that measures specific skills --such as number and letter identification, counting, initial sounds, and sight word fluency.
While I still use paper materials and manipulatives every day, we also want to mix in tech.
The apps that we've subscribed to (such as Boom Cards, MobyMax, or Razkids) track individual progress that emails me a weekly progress report. This allows flexibility with meeting with students or having them work on the side for a few minutes.
More than half of students from low‑income households
