All of the students in my class have exceptional needs ranging from Autism to ADHD. They greatly benefit from intentional sensory input (also known as "heavy work") and even have scheduled sensory breaks to help their "engines" stay in balance. While working at the table group, my students have increased their stamina and focus for writing tasks when using Zuma rockers. These tremendous chairs keep students' need to wiggle confined to their personal zones without disrupting others around them. They provide discrete low, slow sensory input and allow the group plan to effectively carry on. We currently have two Zuma rockers, but the students outnumber the chairs and have to take turns. If we could complete the table set with two more, the entire group would have "sameness" and "fairness."
