My Project
Educators need to be intentional about creating space for the voices and stories of Asian and Pacific Islanders (APIs) because these communities are not often included in the school curriculum, home libraries, or children’s media. Out of all racial groups, APIs receive the least attention in school curriculum and textbooks.
As we continue to build our classroom library, I am in awe of the amazing conversations, questions, and curiosity that stems from an abundance of books that reflect characters and themes from a variety of cultures.
In our classroom, it is extremely important to hold conversations with students that develop their sense of acceptance and diversity. This project will aid in said discussions not only for my current students but future second graders as well.
