My students need as many AP US History preparation books as we can.

My Students
AP classes were created to insure a sense of equity. This project helps make that promise a reality.
My high school is one of the largest public schools in one of California's most diverse cities.
Most the students in AP US History are Asian-American, but white, African-American, and Latino students have a presence.
Our students are a cross-section of the entire city, unlike other schools that only admit the cream of the 8th grade crop.
Last year, the school instituted open enrollment, allowing any and all students to enroll in AP US History. This has made the program much more diverse in terms of ethnicity and skill. With the budget cuts, we have had to reduce the support offered, despite the increase in number of students and need.
My Project
I do everything in my power to provide students with the preparation they need to excel in the class and on the AP exam. With only 176 days in the school year, and less because of furlough days, they need a resource to help them outside class hours. Some students may be able to afford these prep books, and others may be able to borrow outdated ones from the library. But this up-to-date resource, provided to every student, will make every difference in the world.
These AP US History prep books will help to level the playing field.
Many of my students have English as a second or third language. For many, this is the first AP class they are taking, and they will be the first in their families to attend college.
Meanwhile, their AP tests will be compared against students who have had every imaginable advantage. This simple resource, which others might take for advantage, will have a dramatic impact on my students. They will know that others care.
More than half of students from low‑income households
