Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low-income, high poverty school districts. They need a lot of guidance and support from their teachers and the community. Many students drop out before graduating because they have no support at school or at home. These students don't think they can perform in today's world because they don't have the tools they need and so they drop out.

I, too, am a representative of a low-income / high poverty school district.

I, on the other hand, was fortunate enough to have great teachers who guided me through and made sure I was successful. I want to help my students break those barriers and give them a chance to explore other opportunities available for them. I want them to have the same opportunities I had so they too can be successful.

My Project

We are currently in difficult times where we have to try and teach our students through a computer. This can be a very stressful time for many students, especially since I am teaching AP Computer Science and AP Statistics, two vigorous courses. I'm currently using Google Meet to try and teach my students but it is a challenge. I am having a difficult time explaining and recording my lessons on my computer and believe the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil will help because it would make it easier for me to write on PDF files while I record my lessons. My intention is to do the same as Khan Academy, where I would be able to write out the problems while explaining it. Students always claim that Khan Academy does not answer specific/personal questions they may have, which is crucial to have answered during these difficult times to allow them to have a better understanding of the topic. I want to help my students during these difficult times and relieve their stress through these videos I will be making with the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil and then post them to be viewed by my students as they need.
