About My Students

My students thirst for knowledge and wisdom, but often lack the resources to quench their thirst. Please help us achieve higher level classroom discussions, through classic literature.

My school is located in Queens, N.Y., the most culturally and ethnically diverse neighborhood in the world.The children who enter my classroom, come from all over NYC.

As such, they carry with them a wealth of knowledge, that contributes to a dynamic classroom. However, many of my students also come from economically disadvantaged homes. Therefore, many times, resources are scarce.

My students need 35 copies of the AP level book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, to help prepare them for the exam in May. My AP students and I will begin a unit of study, which focuses on various world cultures. We are currently exploring creation myths from, Greece, Rome, India, and Africa, just to name a few. Hosseini's text will be a perfect accompaniment to this unit is the perfect choice to extend our excursion. Together, my students and I will learn about the inter-connectivity of, not only literature, but humankind, as well.

By donating to this project, you will help inner city kids foster their love of learning, by reading high quality literature.

As such, they will be better prepared for the demands of college.

In Their Own Words

With this project, my goal is to help my peers and myself become more open to different cultures and religions through the use of high interest literature. In addition, I would like to help my peers develop sensitivity as well as acceptance to many different cultures, aside from American culture.

I believe that I am a student leader and I will make the most of creating this project because this can open doors to many of my peers who will possibly want to learn more about different cultures, religions, and even mentalities. Unfortunately, people tend to stick with what they know. I want to change that.

We live in a society that is resistant to foreign cultures. This is not acceptable. We all share this planet.

I believe many of my peers are challenged by tolerance of some cultures. Reading this book will clarify a lot of common misconceptions for many of my peers. I highly recommend this book to an audience beyond my classroom.
