"An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." - Benjamin Franklin Investing in my students' economic education will benefit their futures and in the long-term will create returns seen throughout the entire economy.
My school prides itself on being an arts-focused school that also excels in academics.
As a performing-arts school, the students are creative, boisterous, interesting and quirky. They are learners, performers, and entertainers. Not only are they entertainers on the stage, but they also want to be entertained in the classroom. These students need a textbook that can not only help them earn college credit, but also engage them with real life scenarios, visually stimulating graphics, and updated content. All students, from a dancer to a mathematician to a writer, can benefit from having a basic fundamental knowledge of both AP Microeconomics and Macroeconomics.
The textbook, Krugman's Economics for AP, will be the students' main resource both inside and outside the classroom. This book is not only especially made for the AP curriculum, but it is also made for high school students. High school students usually find college level textbooks dry and boring, but this book brings economics to life with its colorful graphics, hands-on activities, and module based learning. The book is broken into short individual modules for each economic concept instead of long chapters on several topics. Using this book, the students will learn all the of the material for AP Macroeconomics including the three economic indicators, fiscal and monetary policy, banking, economic growth, and international trade. The students will also learn the Microeconomics concepts of supply and demand, cost/revenue charts of businesses, market structures, financial literacy, and the role of the government.
At its core, economics is the study of choices and how to best use your resources when you make any decision.
What better skill can we teach children than how to make great decisions in their lives? If my students pass the AP exam this book helps them prepare for, they can earn college credits while still in high school. An understanding of financial literacy, business knowledge, and fiscal policy will also help the students to be productive citizens, no matter what field they choose in life.
