My Project
Our high school is a selective enrollment math and science academy located in a rough neighborhood, but my students travel from all over the south side and beyond to attend. My students are 71% African-American and 25% Hispanic, and over 69% are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. They are driven and motivated; they like to explore STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) concepts and to challenge themselves in every way possible.
AP Chemistry, both the course and the AP Chemistry Exam in May, is a challenge.
I strive to ensure that the course prepares my students for the exam by having them conduct experiments to reinforce the content they are learning throughout the year. This is why they need lab notebooks. The notebooks that I am requesting are carbonless duplicate sets, which allow students to record data and complete calculations all while creating a copy within the notebook itself. This means that students can keep a copy to study, and submit a copy to me in order to receive a grade for the lab. The back cover of the notebook actually folds over to prevent bleed-through between sets and it also contains an updated periodic table in the front cover.
