My Students

Our school is a middle/high school in the urban area of Maryland. We focus on educating our students to become great leaders and citizens. Students are celebrated for exhibiting our school's core values: integrity, scholarship, citizenship, perseverance, and sustainability. My students learn best through real-world applications, hands-on activities, and authentic experiences. I teach students with diverse abilities, interests, and backgrounds. My students are in various grade levels, but they all thrive when they get to "do" science!

For the 2021-2022 school year, I am teaching AP Seminar, AP Capstone, and a Science elective.

STEM/STEAM hands-on activities, cross-curricular projects, and laboratory investigations help my students to learn and apply concepts.

Having experiences dealing with research in high school will better prepare them for their future college and career choices. AP Seminar allows them to explore themes, develop and refine their reading and writing skills, earn college credit, and so much more. I am so excited to be teaching these courses.

My Project

AP Capstone is composed of two classes--AP Seminar and AP Research. Students research and write papers on their self-selected research questions, create presentations, and share their work through individual and group presentations.

This project helps my students to be successful in AP Capstone classes.

There is a lot of research, writing, peer review, and revision in these classes. Erasable highlighters and pens in a variety of colors will allow students to color-code sections of their papers. Students can designate colors for claims, evidence, and reasoning. This visual helps to keep students' papers balanced. Students will also be able to peer review and write feedback in a designated color. Helping each other in this way builds a positive classroom culture, which also supports students' mental health. Each student will have a copy of Your Guide to AP Research. This book will be an excellent resource for my AP Research students. The other books will be included in our reference section. Students can self-select the books that they need as they need them.

Being prepared with the appropriate tools like erasable highlighters, erasable pens, and books helps to reduce mental stress. It allows my students to focus on their work. Having these tools provided eliminates the stress of not being able to afford these items. Stress balls and pop-its help support students' mental health.
