My students need flexible seating to help them stay focused. I believe that all students can learn; however, some students need additional assistance to help them become successful.
I work with mostly 3rd through 5th grade students with special needs. Our school is in a very rural area of South Carolina. Our entire school is provided free lunch and breakfast due to its economic background. The students I work with are diagnosed with learning disabilities, autism and other health impairments. Many of my student have difficulty focusing for long periods of time, which greatly effects their ability to perform equally with their peers.
Research indicates that if other parts of the body are active, students are more inclined to remain attentive and focused.
This is the reason, I would like to provide flexible seating for my classroom. Providing them with the exercise ball chairs will allow my students to move about, without leaving their seats and without disturbing other students. I believe that if students are provided this flexible seating, they will become more productive and stay more focused.
My Project
All students are not created equally; however, we are expected to have ALL students perform equally. Teaching a variety of students who have different disabilities, interest, learning styles, and educational needs can be quite challenging. However, it is a job that I absolutely love doing.
With flexible seating purchased through this grant, I will provide my students with a variety of seating options, which will help ensure they are able to stay focused.
I believe their bodies engaged in physical activity will help keep their minds focused on curriculum. Research indicates that if other body parts are active, students are more inclined to stay focused.
