Working with the "wiggles" is very important. I am a fifth grade teacher in a very high needs community. We are a public school in the inner city with a large immigrant and low income populations.
I have a number of students who have the hardest time doing seat work. Even with PE and exercise breaks they still struggle when it is time to work from their seats. This often is bad for their grades and can get them into trouble.
I have been talking to and working with other educators in the area and a very useful tool seems to be the inflatable seat cushion. They allow students to move around in their seats without disturbing anyone. I also hear it keeps them from falling off their chairs!
You could make it possible for the struggling and active students in my room to have a greater chance at academic success. You will give them the wiggle room they need to get things done.
