This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a STEM magnet middle school in Indiana. This means that my students chose to come to our school to learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

My seventh and eighth graders come from all around the city to form a community where we focus on our core values of rigor, community, relationships, and drive.

My students come from diverse cultures and experiences, and some overcome significant obstacles to succeed at our school. In their two short years with us, they come in as young pre-teens and develop into teenagers prepared to flourish in high school!

My Project

I am requesting the books: Stamped (For Kids): Racism, Anti-Racism, and You as well as This Book is Anti-Racist: 20 Lessons on How to Wake Up, Take Action, and Do the Work.

One of our school's priorities is Race Equity work and an important part of that is starting the conversations with our students.

By basing our conversations in a book, we have a starting point to create a safe space for discussion. We are going to invite our students for voluntary book studies on these two texts. On behalf of my students, thank you for any donation you can contribute!
