My Students
The human race can not ever allow the Holocaust to be forgotten. Many of my students have read the incredibly moving and famous Diary of Anne Frank. This book is told from the point of view of the boy hidden in the annex with her, Peter. It continues her story and message.
I teach at an urban school where many of my students are struggling readers.
They require engaging texts that grab their attention and hold on to it. They have all read The Diary of Anne Frank in middle school and frequently refer to it as "the best book ever". I want to continue her story and message, and this incredible new historical fiction book would do just that.
My Project
Using this book, we will study the Holocaust in depth. We will look at Anne's message and the new point of view that Peter's voice will bring. We can study not only the book, but also the way it is written and the messages it conveys. I will have students practice creating their own voice with this novel and it will be a great model to do so.
This is such an incredibly important topic to educate students about.
They received information in middle school, but now they can look at it more in depth as they are older and it can also tie into their history classes. Thank you so much for spreading Anne's message of hope.
