This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a public charter school focusing on student agency, choice, and inquiry. In our multi-age classroom of first and second graders, we strive to teach each other throughout the day, pulling from each of our strengths as well as learning from our mistakes. We know that our mistakes make our brains grow stronger, and we work hard to learn from our mistakes.

We are lucky to have a multi-age group as well as a group of students who come from different backgrounds and experiences.

Our classroom community works to be truly open-minded, learning, and appreciating the world and those around us.

My Project

Over the last few weeks, we have been learning how living things need specific conditions and healthy environments in order to survive. We have looked into and studied various biomes from the tundra to the taiga and from the rainforest to the desert. In literacy, we have looked at and analyzed informative texts to see all the ways authors use nonfiction text features to teach their readers and make their books look more interesting, and captivate the reader.

In the weeks to come, students will begin to research their own chosen animal, learn to take notes, and become experts in their chosen animal!

This construction paper is colorful and fun and really will stand out. Each student will get to put their own unique flavor to their animal books and I know they will love it! I want them to create something they are not only excited about but truly proud of. This has been a difficult year in many ways and I would love it if we could end the year celebrating their success in creating animal books that they can be proud of and want to present.
