Help me give my students my students hands-on learning experiences in veterinary assisting, with realistic stuffed dogs that will allow students to practice vital skills they would use in a veterinary office.
My students are often pursuing careers in animal science or health sciences. Hands-on learning is vital to their understanding. This project will fund stuffed dogs that will be utilized in multiple labs including teaching students how to restrain, bandage, and prepare for surgery as well as other skills. These skills will translate to be used in the veterinary/medical industry. As veterinary assistants, students are often in charge of preparing dogs for examination. The more a student can practice this the more accurate they will be in real life.
Doing to learn is not just from the FFA motto, but it's our class motto.
As our animal science program grows, so must our hands-on activities. Some of the other labs we will be able to do include bandaging, tubing, and temperatures, all skills that translate from animals to humans and vice versa. The greatest thing as a teacher I hear from other teachers is that my students share the "cool" stuff we do in class because they are engaged. I want to give them as many things to share as possible.
