My Students

Our classroom lacks a dramatic play area where my students can let their imagination fly free and practice social skills that we learn during the day.

I teach an alternate day program in a wonderful school in a diverse district.

This group of 50 students has a love for learning and a love for socializing! These children are diverse in many ways - ethnicity, socio-economic, and whether or not they have been to school before.

My Project

Research has shown that young children learn by pretending and doing. In our kindergarten program there is a strong focus on academics, but we also focus on the children's social growth. Dramatic play allows children to take skills they have learned in the classroom and apply them in a meaningful way. They "act" it out in the classroom and in turn build skills essential for success both in and out of school.

Your donation will allow our classroom to set up a wonderful dramatic play area that will support language development and abstract thinking.

The students can work cooperatively and practice social skills - taking turns, problem solving, thinking creatively and sharing responsibility. Your support will not only help these students develop skills, but learn how to use them in life!
