As a public school, our goal is to offer a more comprehensive middle school experience. As requested by many of my students, they wanted the opportunity to play instruments as an alternative to singing in our school choir. It is my goal to broaden their musical horizons!
My students have taken on the challenge of working their way into and graduating from college.
We have a rigorous academic program that they commit to each and every day which will assist them in reaching their dreams and aspirations of going beyond college. The students are resilient in life due to the numerous challenges that they face personally in conjunction with the demands of an extended school day. KIPP DC is a public charter school which prides itself on going beyond normal limitations and expectations to ensure all of the students go to college, graduate, and become productive members of the global community.
With the donation of the tenor (quad) drums, students will be able to experience different elements of music and create in some and develop in others a sense of self-accomplishment and discipline. It will help our students tap into their creative/imaginative side which will help invest them more into the core academic subjects.
My Project
A drum line will be formed to assist in reading music notation, learning rhythmic cadences, and students will be able to perform and compete at musical festivals, community events, and private concerts. The students will learn how to better operate as a team with self-discipline and it will give them a sense of pride in something other than themselves.
Your contributions will assist in developing the whole child outside of the core academics.
The impact of an experience such as this is global in proportions! My students will be able to dream bigger dreams because this door was unlocked for them. They will be better musicians and even better human beings by this wonderful experience!
