Weather weather who knows the weather?
I am a fifth grade teacher and I teach two science classes a day. My students are amazing! We are in a high priority school with very inquisitive minds.
Our fifth grade science curriculum includes a competency goal that states, "The learner will conduct investigations and use appropriate technology to build an understanding of weather and climate." The students really enjoy this unit of study. The problem I face is that we have to borrow the curriculum in unit kits. We do not have access to the materials all year long. Our kit for this unit is sent to us in January and then we return it in March. To effectively teach the goal so the students understand changes in weather and climate throughout the year, we need to have access to the technology all year long.
I would like to have the instruments and tools needed to study weather and climate throughout the year to take advantage of changing weather patterns. I would like to create a permanent weather station near our classroom where my students can collect data and conduct investigations daily. Right now in the midst of the hurricane season they are interested in tracking the hurricanes and a tracking chart would be helpful. These resources would help my class in understanding the changes occurring in weather daily.
With your help my students will be able to use the tools and investigate weather just like a real scientist!
