This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is composed of 55 fifth graders in a general education class, with students with IEP and ELL learners and special education students such as autism.

A typical day in my classroom looks active.

I teach in a Title I school. A large number of the population live in shelters and receive free lunch.

My fifth-grade students come from very diverse families. I am excited to share that my school is a genuinely diverse community. Not only do students come from varying ethnic backgrounds and places, but the life experiences that they’ve had are incredibly unique. My scholars are creative, thoughtful and full of excitement!

They are first generation immigrants and their families have very limited English skills and are not capable of helping them with their learning.

During this coronavirus pandemic, we continue teaching online through distance learning.

To engage my students in this unusually setting , I share my screen constantly to make the learning more meaningful. My students are eager learners. Yet they need a lot of examples and visuals to help them comprehend in a remote learning setting and in person learning.

My Project

During these times of this pandemic, we have been teaching our students virtually. In order to make a difference in the students’ understanding and retention of the assignments that I give to my students, they need the extra assistance of manipulatives and differentiation to assist with completing their math, science, English and ELA work. All of these materials will benefit the students virtually, since they do not have the resources to make their home ready for learning. All of these materials will help my students represent their work and will be helping them complete their annual goals that are set in their IEP. Individualized education plane.

Students with special needs require hands-on work with manipulatives and many more tools to complete their assignments and their goals this virtual school year.

Without this, they fail. Not in my classroom, because I make sure my students have what they need to succeed. All resources and manipulatives and supplies they need are bookbags, pencils, dry erase boards, headphones, bookbag, colored pencil, erasers and many more tools will help them complete their work at home and in school.

As we approach distance learning it is challenging to anticipate what my students will need to be successful.
