Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a sixth grade ELD teacher in Antioch, California. Ours is a Title One school in which about 70% of our students receive free or reduced lunches. I have a wonderful, self contained class this year. As such, it enables me to do more interactive projects and assignments that involve creativity and cooperative learning. This year, none of my students have sixth grade social studies on their agendas. Their primary goal and concern is language develop met. We have a Core Enrichment period at the end of each day that I would like to use to expose them to ancient civilizations and mythology, both of which are part of sixth grade standards! I am hoping to acquire a selection of books and resources that will be used in the classroom to help the kids with research, discussions, written work, as well as creative projects about ancient civilizations. I feel that this experience will help them not only improve vocabulary, but teach them some important history! Thank you so much for considering our group.
