Ancient Mythology Needs 2012 Help

My students need new mythology books to replace the tattered copies available to us, but also so that we have enough for each student to use in class.

My Students

Mythology can be a wonderful lens with which to view the world around us! The lens, however, can not be created without some kind of glass! We lack the glass or it's cracked;we need more mythology books in order to create a lens through which to study different cultural and historical perspectives.

My students are juniors and seniors at a multicultural high school.

Because so many perspectives are represented in our school, my students crave an understanding of the diverse world in which they live. They have a strong work ethic and a high level of responsibility. They want to be able to change the world, or at the very least make a positive difference in their community.

My Project

I believe any form of literature can enhance a student's learning, but when students are lucky enough to have the opportunity to really delve into the literature of other cultures, especially ones that no longer exist, they begin to develop a deeper appreciation and tolerance and understanding of all cultures including their own because they have to understand an entire culture through what that society left behind. Besides strengthening critical reading and thinking skills, students begin to think about the legacy they will leave behind. They see the importance in their behavior and how small actions can make a difference.

Donations to this project help give books to a classroom where books are lacking or in poor shape.

This allows students to have their own copy and not have copies to share. This helps students learn about where western civilization originated.
