My Students

My students are a bright and energetic group of fourth graders.

They attend a pre-K to grade 5 elementary school in New York City. Our school is located in the poorest congressional district in the nation. Most, if not all, of my students qualify for free lunch.

My Project

We are requesting 4 sets of Egyptian Hieroglyphics Rock Art boards, stencils and a variety of books to read about ancient civilizations. While learning about ancient civilizations, my students will be able to experience the magic of Egyptian hieroglyphics by creating their very own rock art with the hieroglyphics rock art boards like ancient Egyptians did thousands of years ago. This project will be instrumental in empowering students through art. The books will enable them to make cross-curriculum connections to literacy, art, math and science while studying ancient civilizations.

By reading and learning about ancient civilizations, my students will learn in a hands-on way about the history of paper making and how the ancient Egyptians used papyrus to make their own paper.

With your help, they will be able to use the papyrus paper to draw their own hieroglyphics or even write their name in hieroglyphics. No doubt, hieroglyphics can be decoded! Please help my students learn how to read the handwriting on the wall.
