My kids are AMAZING! I teach at Marie Riviere, an elementary school in Jefferson Parish. Over 75% of our students come from low-income homes and over half of our students are English Language Learners. Our kids come from all over the world--Honduras, Guatemala, Romania, Pakistan-- just to name a few places! We try to provide opportunities that our students wouldn't normally have have, like going to Tulane University for STEM activities on Saturdays, going to Delgado for Biztown to have the experience of running and working in different businesses, creating and maintaining a sustainable garden, showcasing what they've learned for our Science Showcase, etc. I teach Science and Social Studies, so engagement is where it's at for these kiddos! We do many hands-on activities in SS, including creating ancient artifacts, timelines, maps, brochures, & more! We do all kinds of Science experiments & we've created a garden to grow our own food. I try my best to provide relevant, engaging experiences that will expose my kids to pursued opportunities that will impact their futures. My kids are amazing and deserve the best. Thank you for any donations!
The first thing we learn about in Social Studies is different ancient civilizations that lived long ago, including the Aztecs, Incas, and Mayans. My kids LOVE learning how these civilizations survived without the comfort of modern technology. (I think they really like the drama of it all....).
Throughout our units we create ancient artifacts from clay, timelines, maps, posters, brochures, and much more to make it relevant and engaging.
The modeling clay will be used to design and create an artifact that represents a civilization. My kids use the colored paper to create their brochures and the chart paper & markers are perfect for posters. Thank you for any donations; my kids will be so thankful!
