This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students study Ancient Civilizations in sixth grade, and one of the hardest parts is making this ancient history come alive. However, all of our students love a challenge and a competition, which is why we came up with the idea to a Royal Game of Ur Championship!
Students while learning about Mesopotamia will learn about this Ancient board game, and then be able to play it with the other sixth graders to see who is the ultimate champion.
My goal is that my students learn to love history, and see how cool it is that ancient games can still be played today and have fun with it. Many of our students don't understand how history can apply to present day, or their school experiences have not been very positive. This grade wide tournament would allow our sixth graders to bond, play games all while applying their knowledge about Ancient Mesopotamia.
