This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students will use this text as a central part of their Africa Unit at JLMS. JL has been missing a teacher for much of the year in both 6th and 7th grade, and they just hired someone! I am supporting him, and this will help him greatly!

Through the reading of this book students will learn about the history of pre-colonized Africa, its vast empires, and the wealth that it held from trade and an abundance of natural resources.

Students will pick one of the ten people featured in the book to read about and research to then write an informational essay about that person. Students will get to learn about a variety of people including Aesope, the creator of many of our beloved children's tales; Imhotep, the architect of the Egyptian pyramids; Hannibal Barca, the Carthegenian general who challenged the Romans with elephants; Tin Hinan, who began a city and became queen of a desert oasis; Mansa Musa, the richest person in history; and many others.
