This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My second grade students are resilient. Many of them experienced trauma as a result of the pandemic and yet most still showed up to classes on ZOOM, eager to learn and interact with each other. Last year, students learned to acknowledge their feelings and find productive ways to express them. They also learned how to use technology to access online learning as well as independent learning.
They attend an inner city school in Southern California.
Most students come from families with limited resources and limited formal education. Despite this, students enjoy school and having fun while learning. I am proud to be moving with them to second grade to continue having fun while learning.
My Project
During Math, Reading and Science I develop anchor charts with the help of student to guide learning and thinking. Anchor charts have drawings, key terms, examples and are referenced by students when they speak or write about a topic. We display the charts in the classroom and use them during class discussions. Students create their own charts too as their learning evolves. Their notes can be used in class or at home to assist them as they complete their work. They enjoy learning how to take notes and color makes them come to life.
