Anchoring Our Learning

Help me give my students tools of chart paper, post-it notes, and markers to create engaging, interactive anchor charts as well as cork strips to display their anchor charts for quick references.

My Students

I teach 7th grade Language Arts to students who come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Some students have lived in Greenville, SC for their entire lives, while others are new to South Carolina or are recent immigrants to the USA. What unites them is their creative and caring natures.

My students are motivated young writers who have unlimited potential.

With the right tools, they will be able to unlock this potential to reach new levels of personal and academic achievement. When they are excited about an assignment, they are able to overcome any challenge. They especially get excited and engaged when they are able to meet individual milestones, given a challenge, and a reason to learn.

My Project

Anchor charts are tools used within lessons that capture the most important content and strategies that studnets need to know. By using the easel pad, I can create the framework of the chart and students can interact with that framework using markers and the super sticky post-it notes. By interacting with the chart and making connections, students are able to solidify their learning and understanding of the topic. Our classroom will use the easel pad, sticky notes, and markers to create our charts and help anchor our learning.

Anchor charts help build a culture of literacy in the classroom by making thinking visible.

Students can see the process of how the strategy or content is used, and then refer back to the chart as lessons progress. By posting the charts, students have an easily accessible reminder of the prior learning, and they can build on this learning. The cork strips will help our class easily post and refer to the anchor charts throughout the school year.

Anchor charts help students achieve success in reading and writing, and your donation can help our class have the tools to create quality anchor charts!
