"Tell me, I'll forget. Show me, I'll remember. Involve me, I'll understand"
Engaging students in the process of creating useful learning tools will help them solidify their understanding of skills and concepts. It gives them buy in to what is being taught because they helped to create it.
Our classroom is a great place to be!
Help me create a place where students can be independent in their practice of new skills. At 2nd grade students are ready to be more independent in their everyday learning. They listen to a mini-lesson, help create an anchor chart and then are ready to go out and try it on their own. They use the anchor chart to remind them of the key skills they have learned.
These students come from a variety of backgrounds and homes. Many come from refugee or single parent families and several of them are learning English as their second language. There are even a few with learning disabilities and emotional or behavior issues. Our classroom is an equal playing field where all students have the opportunity to feel safe, have fun and learn with their peers. At our school we believe that all students are capable of success, no matter the obstacles they face. We are committed to high-quality instruction for every child, every day in every classroom
My Project
The post-it note anchor charts will allow us to move our learning around the room as needed. Creating anchor charts gives the students a place to look to for guidance as they begin to work independently. In second grade they no longer want to rely on the teacher. They want to show what they know! Anchor charts help them go from being dependent on the teacher to being self-sufficient second graders.
The post-it note anchor charts will allow my second graders to begin building independence in their daily work as they acquire new skills and use those skills in their daily work.
They will learn how to be life long learners as they gain the confidence that they can find the information they need on their own.
