This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Kindergarten and First Grade students are a very diverse group.
Our school is an inner city school where 92% of our families qualify for free and reduced price meals.
We also have a program where we send home food on the weekends for our neediest families. Also, a majority of our students are English as a Second Language learners and the only time they speak English is at school. Many of their parents work 2 jobs and can only afford basic necessities.
My Project
It is an expectation that we fill our classrooms with anchor charts that we create with our students on the materials that we are teaching. However, I am supposed to create and draw it as we are discussing our topics. Without a teaching cart, I have to lay my chart paper on a table to create our charts and the kids are unable to watch the process unfold as their thoughts and ideas come together to make a poster they can reference throughout the unit.
As this is the first year I will be teaching two grade levels, the storing capabilities of the cart will help me keep the materials organized for both grades.
I know at times both grade levels will not need the same materials at the same time, but being able to have them available and organized to teach my lesson will be helpful.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
