I have a diverse group of eager to learn fourth-grade students in an integrated class. I teach students with disabilities alongside general education students. Most of my students require accommodations to achieve academic success. I incorporate a lot of movement and exercise into my lessons, especially for my students with ADHD. Sometimes I have to use manipulatives for my kinesthetic learners. Some of my students struggle with their language skills and need to attend speech and language therapy to target specific skills. Other times I use anchor charts for my visual learners and to aid my students who struggle with retaining information.
My classroom is a wonderful and inviting place to learn because I recognize the talents and abilities of every child.
Within my classroom, there is a wide range of student abilities and needs. My students' willingness to learn despite their disabilities is inspiring! I believe school should be interesting and engaging and I plan to offer the best help I could to make my students comfortable learning in a general education classroom.
My Project
Anchor charts build a culture of literacy in the classroom. My students make thinking visible by recording content, strategies, processes, cues, and guidelines during the learning process. Students refer to the charts and use them as tools as they answer questions, expand ideas, or contribute to discussions and problem-solving in class in all academic areas.
I usually post anchor charts to keep relevant and current learning accessible to students to remind them of prior learning and to enable them to make connections as new learning happens.
This project will allow my students to have anchor charts right at their desks and available for home use as well. I want my students to create small-sized replicas of charts around the classroom and charts from previous lessons, in case they need them. The copy paper, sheet protectors, and card stock will give my students the chance to draw and copy anchor charts they need into their own binders so they can carry them home to aid with homework and research papers.
