This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Physiology is a student centered course that encourages active participation. Each of my two physiology classes have over 40 students in each class. Students are eager to learn about the human body but sacrifice the luxury of having "plenty of room" to perform laboratory tasks.

My students are interpersonal kinesthetic learners and benefit from movement and interaction that lab activities offer.

When my students are actively engaged during class lessons they achieve higher levels of learning and are able to connect the content with real life situations. My students work well together and activities that include hands-on learning gives them an educational opportunity to visualize and experience the dynamics of the human body. This course is an elective course for 11th and 12th grade students that desire to attend a 4 year university after high school graduation. Many of my students are considering majors in biology, human biology or human physiology in order to pursue a career in the health science field. They faces are inspiring and their "happy" faces are motivating.

My Project

The digital blood pressure monitor measures systolic and diastolic blood pressure along with the heart rate of a patient. Students can work in cooperative groups and use this monitor to mimic a real-life patient/health care provider scenario. This particular unit assures correct placement on the patient with a LCD display and is battery operated. The batteries required are AA and can be easily replaced. My students will benefit from this highly motivating academic tool that helps develop their thinking and understanding of the cardiovascular system and its impact on overall health.

My students are starving for modern technology that is useful today.

Many of our resources are old and under heavy use are "worn out". The design and application of this useful tool will provide my students with a skill that is marketable and useful to their aspirations. What a treat for an educational resource to make sense in the "real world" too! Thank you for your donation!
