My students need assorted models to help them conceptualize the material from our Anatomy & Physiology text.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Chang's classroom raised $574

My Students
Help my Anatomy & Physiology students by providing a hands-on experience! We have a good text that I supplement with 3D images and videos, but anatomical models of the human structures the students are learning about would help them really connect the dots.
My students are dedicated juniors at a high needs school in the inner city.
They work hard to complete a full academic load as well as a Vocational Track in Nursing or Health Technologies. Despite being faced with hardships of their own (poverty, broken families, and language barriers), they yearn to help others and are exploring careers as doctors, nurses, and EMTs. Their dedication is apparent, as many already work within internships to gain experience in these areas. Many also participate in HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) to raise health awareness in the community. They work tirelessly, promoting issues like organ donation, blood donation, and proper nutrition. This past year they came to school early for weeks to cut fruit to be sold as a fundraiser. Having fresh fruit for students in an area surrounded by only chips and candy was inspiring. They used the money they raised to compete against other HOSA students in Florida. I am so proud of their accomplishments.
My Project
I chose 3D models of specific organs we focus on that are especially challenging. For instance, large eye and ear models will illuminate the tiny structures that contribute to our special senses. Models of the heart, skeleton, and kidney will bring to life the flat images they see in their books. The models will be used in demonstrations as well as laboratory assignments. Students will work in groups to analyze the 3D structure of the organs, compare/contrast them to our dissection specimens, and conceptualize how the anatomy complements the physiology.
This donation would bring the material full circle for my students.
I have worked hard to give them the best possible learning experience by enhancing text material with videos and dissections, but anatomically-correct, human models are resources we need but cannot afford. It is important that I vary my instruction in order to inspire all types of learners, and these models would help me reach my hands-on learners, as well as supplement learning for all of my other students.
Thank you!
