My students are dedicated juniors at a high needs school in the inner city. They work hard to complete a full academic load as well as a Vocational Track in Nursing or Health Technologies. Despite being faced with hardships of their own (poverty, broken families, and language barriers), they yearn to help others and are exploring careers as doctors, nurses, and EMTs. Their dedication is apparent, as many already work within internships to gain experience in these areas. Many also participate in HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) to raise health awareness in the community. They work tirelessly, promoting issues like organ donation, blood donation, and proper nutrition. This past year they came to school early for weeks to cut fruit to be sold as a fundraiser. Having fresh fruit for students in an area surrounded by only chips and candy was inspiring. They used the money they raised to compete against other HOSA students in Florida. I am so proud of their accomplishments.
