My Project
My school is offering Environmental Science as an elective. The Inquiries in Science: Analyzing Populations kit refill will provide my students with enough supplies to complete multiple hands-on learning activities.
My students love hands-on activities!
Students will explore and build several mathematical models of population growth. Students also explore the relationship between population growth and resource quality by investigating the response of yeast culture growth. They will generate and compare J- and S-shaped population curves, develop the skills necessary to evaluate scientific models, develop connections between the key concepts of logistic and exponential growth and carrying capacity, develop the skills necessary to design and perform scientific investigations, and produce a testable hypothesis. Thermometers, magnetic stirrer hot plates, weigh boats, and spatulas are necessary for the investigations that they will complete in this activity. These items will also be used in various other hands-on learn opportunities.
