My Students

"Oh no, come on Ms. D.!" These are the best words a teacher can hear, as she tells her students they are done reading the class novel for the day. Hearing students cry out of frustration because they "can't wait to read what happens" next in a story brings joy to a teacher's ears. Our school serves students in grades six through eight and provides them an engaging and enlightening education to prepare them for their futures.

Many of our students are first-generation Americans or are bilingual students whose parents and teachers work every day to ensure their children's success in school.

My students are filled with imagination, creativity, and a pure wonder about the world. Even with the sensitive nature of their age, they teach me, daily, about compassion for others. They approach their learning with a passion and dedication, and I strive, as their teacher, to provide them with every bit of assistance I can to better their future.

My Project

The Jenga games will be used in our 6th Grade Language Arts classroom to practice skills related to analyzing literature and informational texts.

One of the best ways to get students involved in their learning is to allow them to use their hands and play a game.

Each Jenga piece will have a question related to critical thinking and the team members will be required to take turns answering the question. An example of a Jenga piece question related to literature is: "Name one of the main characters and describe their personality. Use examples from the text to support your response." This game will take the questions off a worksheet and turn them into a fun, hands-on activity!
