Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When I say artist I mean the one who is building things, some with a brush, some with a shovel, some choose a pen. ~Jackson Pollock Students are looking for ways to express themselves, through drawing, writing, building, and photography. These students want to share their learning around the world.

When students come in every morning our conversations center around what are we doing today.

Students love to hear that we are going to be creating and sharing that creation with others, outside of the classroom walls. For students to have the chance to share that excitement of learning with others is priceless and can make a big impact on their future. Asking students to play, asking them to imagine, asking them to work with their hands is something that I want to do every day. These students need to have the opportunities to explore, create, and build. My students come from a limited English background and are almost 95% free and reduced lunch. In Northern Indiana, we have students who want to succeed but have not had the opportunities to express themselves and share their learning with others around the world. This is where our classroom comes in. We are going to provide those chances so students have the ability to imagine, create, and build using these tablets!

My Project

Imagine what happens when a student can share their learning with others. The first thing I see is excitement. Students are actively engaging their minds and sharing their thinking creatively with other. Students will be engaged in learning all about math, science, reading, writing, and art (STEAM). The chances that students will have to create grows exponentially with these tablets. Students will have the chance to create, design, model, and evaluate their own learning, but at the same time sharing it with others to get feedback. In the mind of a learner, feedback is what drives success, this is the mindset our students need. Feedback is accepted and desired. Through the use of these tablets students will be given the opportunities to explore new areas of learning, guiding each other through storytelling and the design process. The two Nexus tablets will allow for students to record their own learning and creations, sharing with others outside of the classroom walls.

When students are given opportunities to learn, they will grow.

We need the chance to provide the ability to create, revise, and refine and that can come from these tablets. Now when a student needs to erase or redesign an idea they can quickly change it. The process of learning will become quicker and the turnaround time for feedback becomes shorter. These students need high quality feedback and the chances to grow and learn about exciting new things. Please help our class get two new tablets.
