Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach every child at the school. This ranges from Pre-Kindergarten/Transitional Kindergarten, all the way to 6th grade. This also includes all of the special day classes from all age groups. Many of my students are from low income families and have not experienced any sort of formal music training outside of my classroom.

These students are eager to learn everything that I throw at them; they are kind, respectful, and brilliant.

They're incredible! I have never seen a group of children so excited to come to music class. The younger students love to sing and dance as we learn music through the use of our voices and bodies. The older students come in eager to play on instruments, learn the fundamentals of music, and to perform. They deserve the best education, and I plan to do my all to make that happen for them.

My Project

Music is an academic language that is learned in different ways for different age groups. My younger students (K-2nd) love to sing and use their bodies to discover music, but my older students do not have this same love for song and dance. This is understandable, since they have not had music prior to this year, and have never been asked to sing or move in front of their peers before. Luckily, the music curriculum can be taught in a variety of ways; including the use of instruments.

These ukuleles will allow my students to learn the curriculum faster and more in-depth than ever before.

Students are always asking me when they will learn to play instruments, and I want to be able to give them the opportunity to perform at as young of an age as possible. These ukuleles will allow them to learn all of the fundamental concepts of music, melody, harmony, and rhythm, while having an absolute blast doing it.
