My students need folders and binders to be successfully organized. Often, they do not bring these items from home.

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am hoping to provide my students with meaningful learning experiences that allow them to be creative.
My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous, and are able to make the most out of what life has given them.
The circumstances into which they were born should not inhibit their potential for success. They deserve a positive academic experience as much as the next child.
Many of my students are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire my students to continue on a path of academic success.
My grade level team is aiming to give each student a two inch, three ring binder next school year to help with organization. I have attempted to get enough for my homeroom with this project. Many students come to us unaware of how to stay organized.
Going from class to class poses some difficulty for sixth graders, as it is the first year in our district that they move constantly throughout the day.
We want our sixth graders to go to the Jr/Sr High School prepared for a quick moving and ever changing schedule. By organizing them during their last year in sixth grade, we hope to promote success in the later middle school years.
The pencil sharpener will come in handy for students who have standard pencils and no way to sharpen them. The folders will be used as additions to their binders to help with organization.
