My students are a group of highly motivated and hard working readers. They come from all demographics and varying socioeconomic levels. There are four RSP students who have specific learning challenges, four students on a behavior plan who struggle to achieve the most basic day-to-day goals, a gifted student with autism, and a student who never went to any kind of school before first grade. I have ten ELL students in the class. It is a very diverse group of students with each and every one with needs very specific to them. They are wonderful learners whose eyes brighten up whenever they have the opportunity to read a book. They have a thirst for knowledge and I admire their perseverance.
My Project
My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy. Every day I read to them on the carpet. They also love to read independently! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. From this bookcase, students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time. I have noticed them choosing books that are easily visible on the bookshelf. Six-year-olds have tiny delicate hands and fingers that will be able to pull out books that they want to read. I want the physical process of choosing a book to be easy so more energy is spared for reading and enjoying the books.
