My Students
My students are in 2nd grade at a title 1 school. Many of them are from low income households. They are grateful for things they receive and for their education. They are a great group of kids but they definitely need a structured routine to keep them organized!! It is important for students to develop a system and routine where they can feel successful at school. Keeping organized develops an invaluable skill that they will use their entire educational experience and beyond.
My Project
A cubby system is a invaluable communication tool. It provides the teacher a place to distribute school to home communication with parents. It also gives the student a place to keep important papers. The students also use a daily planner and a cubby is a great place to maintain the routine needed in class. If a student is absent, it allows the teacher a place to keep the important things the students needs to help feel caught up when they return. In 17 years of teaching, this is the first classroom that doesn't have a cubby system in place. The classroom should benefit greatly from a cubby unit!
