My Students

I am a firm believer that an organized classroom leads to success. Students need order. They have enough chaos in their lives. They need something - no matter how minute - they can control. Keeping an orderly classroom helps to provide this.

My students come from poverty-stricken, ethnically-diverse backgrounds.

There are so many things they face from day to day: drugs, sex, gang activity. There are so many opportunities for their lives to spin out of control. They need as much order and organization as they can get. A simple cabinet - used to help clean and organize a classroom - can do wonders for a student's ability to succeed.

My Project

Each semester, my middle school choral students learn and polish approximately twelve songs. Scattered about, copies of these octavos destroy the aesthetic appeal of the learning environment. In doing so, this most insignificant amount of chaos distracts the students and takes away all sense of boundary and order. A small cabinet, though seemingly inconsequential, can set an educational program on the path to success.

Purchasing a cabinet for my classroom is a priority.

Simply because my students deserve every opportunity than can get to succeed. Many would say that because of their backgrounds, they are doomed. In fact, though, they are in a prime position for excellence.
