An Ordinary Man

My students need 30 copies of "An Ordinary Man" in order to meet the common core biography standards. Also, to open their minds to the harsh reality in other countries.

My Students

My students enjoy learning about things that are real-life and they can relate to, which is why Paul Rusesabagina's book, "An Ordinary Man: An Autobiography" is the perfect book for my students to read to enhance our English and Social Studies Common Core/Cross Curricular goals.

My 7th grade students are an energetic, exciting, and fun loving group.

They love to learn, and love to learn through books. My students love curriculum that is real-life and they are able to relate to. Our school is located in a tight-knit community in NE Indiana, with a rural middle school that has 600 students.

My Project

Our students will be using this book to enhance the English and Social Studies curriculum. When the English class is reading this book, the Social Studies class will be studying Africa. When Social Studies reviews this book, in the English class students will be writing their own autobiographies. We will also do a character study on the author of this book, Paul Rusesabagina, and others who have inspired change through the world. Students will then write research papers and create presentations about a "real-world" hero that has made a difference. Finally, students will use their lap tops (our second year of 1:1 technology) to create a podcast to share with younger students in our corporation.

Your generous donation will provide 120 students with access to a life-changing, inspirational book for the classroom.

We have embraced the Common Core standards, which means we have adopted all new books. This book was our first choice in an autobiography. We would consider this book a "must read" for every student and parent.
