My students need 3 iPod touch devices which will become a vital component to improve student achievement in reading, writing, and mathematics, plus 3 cases for protection.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I cannot stress the importance of giving my students the technology tools that would equip them to compete with children coming from more affluent homes where technology is commonplace. It is my responsibility to give students the confidence and skills necessary to prepare them for the future.
My school is located in a densely populated urban inner city composed of primarily low socio-economically disadvantaged students.
Spanish is the primary spoken language in the area. My class is composed of thirty Pre-K students, divided by a morning and afternoon class, with an age range of four and five year olds. Many of them live in a multifamily complex and others in converted garages. Despite their socio-economic status, these students come to school with a smile on their faces ready to learn. Each day they face the poverty and violence around them; however, school becomes the place where they can feel safe and nurtured. In school, my students seem to forget about the world around them as they focus on the activities I have prepared for them. School is the place they are eager to attend and I am truly grateful that I can provide the services necessary to equip them to face this challenging world in which my students will definitely become productive members of our society.
My Project
I am requesting three iPod Touch devices. These will help me implement a technology center in which my students will have the opportunity to practice concepts and skills previously taught. My students will not only be able to improve learning and achievement in ALL academic areas, but also by the use of the iPods my students will be more motivated to learn and improve their self-esteem. These devices will allow me to integrate a new world to my students by the use of educational applications, camera, and the diverse functions the iPod touch offers. For example, my students will be able to take pictures of themselves and their environment and later write about these; students can record themselves reading decodable books or practice the high frequency words as they time themselves for fluency.
I am also requesting three cases which will help my students' iPods remain free from any damage.
Research shows that technology can make a difference in improving test scores, reach performance goals as it engages students in learning, improves attendance, and decreases dropout rates as it promotes graduation.
My students deserve this opportunity, so please help me promote equity by making these devices accessible for them.
We all thank you in advance for your donations!
