My school is located in a densely populated urban inner city composed of primarily low socio-economically disadvantaged students. Spanish is the primary spoken language in the area. My class is composed of thirty Fourth grade students. Many students in our area live in multifamily complexes, motels and others in converted garages. Despite their socio-economic status, these students come to school with a smile on their faces and ready to learn. Many face the poverty and violence around them; however, school becomes the place where they can feel safe and nurtured. In school, my students seem to forget about the world around them as they focus on the activities I have prepared for them. School is the place they are eager to attend and I am truly grateful that I can provide the services necessary to become college and career ready.
