Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in one of the poorest congressional districts in the United States, not too far from the richest district. Entering sixth grade, they are already years behind their more affluent counterparts in both math and reading.
We don't let their zip code dictate their future.
Our goal as a school is to get our students to and through college. Our students are three times more likely to graduate from a four year college or university than the low-income average. Our students work hard and have fun.
My Project
Classrooms have iPads specifically to help the different student learning styles. Many classrooms are using iPads for a majority of the class time, and it has completely revolutionized the class and learning experience. An iPad alone will not increase students' mathematical understanding, but with my dedication and commitment, the students will love learning about new math concepts and not be bored practicing and perfecting old skills. All students learn differently, and no child should be deprived of learning the best way they can. This iPad will help the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners to succeed where a pencil and paper cannot. Because of its incredibly small size, the iPad can be used by multiple students during every 90-minute class period.
I am requesting the iPad so it can be used to help with differentiating instruction in my Math classroom.
The visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners will be able to learn Math like never before. Also, all students will be able to use the most updated technology to understand that Math is life. This iPad will ensure that all students have the chance to learn like never before.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
