Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a second and third grade teacher in a low-income, high-poverty school district. I have a class of wonderful second and third graders who are English language learners, special education students, and general education students who come from various ethnic backgrounds.
Despite the many challenges my students face, my students come to school eager to learn and strive to do better.
The recent pandemic has really put a major obstacle in front of our students. School closures have separated our students from us teachers, counselors and other staff members who support them during important developmental transitions and difficult times.
Despite these circumstances, my students are doing their best to learn from home but lack basic school supplies and food that they would have received during a normal school day.
The closures of schools across the country, will likely precipitate a “widening gap” between low- and high-income students. School closures prompted by the Coronavirus pandemic have sent families scrambling for solutions—balancing their work schedules with childcare and their children's needs for social stimulation and learning. As a result, many of my students are in need at this time. Please help me give my students everything they need.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad which will support student learning and engagement during this time of distance learning. This iPad will help me to teach online and in the classroom once we return to campus.
The iPad will be a great support to my instruction, I will use the iPad to plan and deliver engaging and exciting lessons to my amazing second and third graders!
The iPad will also be a great support as I prepare to assess students online with reading and math assessments. The iPad will make online assessing manageable and easier to record and track student growth. Class Dojo will also be used to create a point system with incentives that get our students engaged. It will visually show our students their classdojo points and get them engaged. The IPad will be used as a screen to share reading material and math materials. This can be done remotely and in school. This will make a difference in student learning because it lets them visually see their work and progress.
