Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is highly structured and we move fast through our rotations. In each rotation we must utilize every moment to the maximum extent possible. I need something quick that has everything I need to target students' IEPs during these rotations and which is highly engaging for my students!!

I teach at a Title 1 school in the Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD).

My students range in age from 3-5 years old and have a variety of disabilities. Many of my students and their families are faced with challenges including language barriers, lack of education, foster homes, and financial difficulties. Each of my students has their own unique personality and a heart of gold. My students have a disability but SO WHAT!! I never see them as a child with a disability, I see them as a 3-5 year old, with some challenges they will overcome to reach their full potential.

My Project

With all the budget cuts in school districts, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to obtain new materials for my students that are engaging. I am looking for other alternatives to help meet the needs of my students. My students with Autism are highly drawn to the technology. They will work with me for 2 times longer than with manipulatives. The iPad tablet is going to increase our academic success in the classroom. Some of my students are unsuccessful demonstrating their knowledge with manipulatives and the iPad tablet will be critical in their ability to demonstrate new knowledge and skills. The amount of learning on an iPad tablet is endless. There are many apps that are free or can be purchased that teach communication, vocabulary, math, writing, and literacy that I intend to use on the iPad tablet. This will provide my students with generalizing skills, and lessons can be linked to their individual goals and objectives.

An iPad tablet in the classroom will provide my students with another way to learn new or developing skills and demonstrate their skills.

Research has proved that individuals with ASD typically use visual processing as their dominant information processing mode, and because of that strength they usually possess a heightened interest in visual materials. I want to teach in a way that is motivating and fun for my students!!!
