An Invitation to Invent, A Place to Solve Problems

Help me give my students project-based books and materials to help them explore, create, and discover. I also want them to have rich, fun text about inventors and explorers who persevered and succeeded.

My Students

After this school year, I am switching grade levels from first grade to fourth grade. I am excited that I get to teach some of my former students next year.

My students come from very different homes with very different experiences.

They are resilient despite living in a foster home or missing a parent at home. We are a Title One school with 98% of the families qualifying for free and reduced lunch. For some of them, the only constant in their life is school.

Given how wonderfully diverse my students are, each child brings something special and uniquely beautiful to our classroom. And despite each home circumstance, we come together as a class family to do great things! Their socioeconomic status does not hold them back. Their thirst for knowledge helps them move mountains. I enjoy watching their enthusiasm for learning!

My Project

I want my students to identify a problem and invent the solution. I have a dedicated place for them to explore and discover. Students are able to complete projects during the school day, before school, during our lunch, and sometimes after school.

Books can help spur ideas for solutions to a problem.

My students need books that share stories of people who've made discoveries and the process they went through. To get students started thinking about the possibilities, I want books available that show students how to make things work. Tinkering and exploring helps students see things in a different way. Collaborating with each other brings them even closer to success.

My classroom provides a safe space for students to try new things, fail, and try again until they succeed. With your support, they will be able to use everyday things to create extraordinary inventions.
