I work with the students who will soon run this world and I absolutely love it. My students come from all different walks of life. Living in a diverse, low income community they are faced with many obstacles on a daily and I love being someone they trust to help. The thing I love most about my students is the resilience that I see. These students often come from impoverished, broken homes with absent parents but they come smiling and ready to learn. These students know no better but with the help of their community I believe they will grow to DO better.
My Project
Students do not have sufficient meals at home. It helps them get through the day to have a snack or small meal. Also a sweater on a cold day is a necessity that we don't think twice about because we have plenty- but these students walk to school in very cold weather with no jacket and no choice. For a student to be able to ask for food, is big because of pride but they are hungry and they have no where else to turn. It makes such a difference in their day knowing that they can come and have support outside of the classroom, support for personal needs. They are young children and do not know who else to ask.
