An Inclusive and Reflective Library

Help me give my students a full library that reflects who they are!

My Project

My students are simply amazing. When the pandemic hit, I gave away my classroom library to students who needed books at home. These books will help to build our classroom library back. The Scholastic News magazines will help them stay aware of current events.

E lawe i ke aʻo a mālama, a e ʻoi mau ka naʻauao.

(He who takes his teachings and applies them increases his knowledge.) With a more inclusive library, my students will be able to see themselves in the people they are reading about. They will be able to borrow these books from my classroom at any time and use them as a part of their reading log. The Scholastic News magazines will be used in class and at home to help them build their own home libraries.

The students in my classroom come from very diverse backgrounds. Ten percent of them are English learners, 20% identify as LGBTQ+, and 100% of them are awesome! These books and magazines will help them see people just like them, growing up and becoming successful adults.
